Ryan Whiteside 3/8/2009 ECE 234 Essay on the humbug of Despereaux The description of Despereaux is a story about a banished mouse, Despereaux, the main ripe of the story who becomes the hero by saving the Princess from the dark and prim dungeon where the evil two-timers live. It is told in four sepa faile stories called books that focalisation on the stories of the main characters. Book the First tells of Despereauxs beginning, the second of the rat Chiaroscuro, and the third about the slave turned Kings servant, Miggory put. All the characters are brought together in Book the Fourth. Despereaux is a tiny mouse born with open eyes and enormous ears. He is seen as an oddball that is constantly sick and shows no concern in things a mouse should show intimacy in. Then he hears music that the King is playing for his daughter, the Princess Pea, shit him to fall in esteem with the Princess and speak to her. He is caught doing this and is sentenced by the mouse council to be sent to dungeon where he supply for surely die from the rats in the dark. DiCamillo does an excellent job of word-painting moral values such as the virtues of nonconformity, the power of savor and the universal need for forgiveness and redemption. These are all told in ways children cigarette easily relate to.

The characterization is withal done very well and in ways that children tin relate to such as young girls requirementing to be a princess like Miggory sow in cute to or how Roscuro indispensablenessed something so badly (to see the light, something that was forbidden to rats) but was mysophobic of the persecution he might face from the other rats. It is easy to facial port emotion for the characters in ! the way that DiCamillo describes such as when Miggory Sow at age 6 is unwanted by her death mother and then sold by her father for a tablecloth, a hen, and a handful of cigarettes. Mig is constantly found to be unwanted throughout the story, even by Roscuro the rat who uses her to tweet and imprison the Princess.
